Is August Downgrade Season?

Happy Friday, !

The recent downgrade of the USA was just the start to several more downgrades and possibly more on the horizon.

What a couple weeks it’s been! Stock markets looked like they were going to survive all the cracks that we were seeing in the economy, but since the downgrade, it’s been a different story.

This week we start by looking at the Always-Around-The-Corner recession. There have been several changes to spending as we ease out of the pandemic. This gives us some insights into what could be good options for investing. We look at whether a soft landing is still possible and analyze what the experts are saying.

The USA was downgraded for the second time in its history, this time by Fitch’s. They saw their credit lower from a AAA rating to a AA+. The last time this happened was in 2011 and there are some lessons to be learnt from that. Markets did not take kindly to the decrease in 2011, but the government was able to keep interest rates low and create stability through its accommodative monetary policy. We’re not seeing the same tools available to the Fed right now, so listen, watch, or read to see what we’re keeping and eye on.

Finally, for the Lighter Side, we look at the sport of Pickleball. Like most new phenomenon, it comes with some growing pains. As more and more enthusiasts rush to the courts, or build their own home courts, complaints are starting to roll in. In once quite neighbourhoods, the sound of pickleballs and racquets are waking up neighbours at very early hours. There may be a solution, however.
