The Weight… of Downgrade Season
Take a load off, !
We have 1/2 of our summer left - what exciting plans do you have before September rolls in? Before we had Miles, we would always plan our trips in the fall since there’s really nothing better than exploring a new place when the crowds have died down (and extending your summer!), the temperatures are a little more reasonable, and the costs have come down a bit as well. For those of you who have the ability to travel in the fall, enjoy!
Just over a 1/3 of the way in, August has given us some interesting news already. A couple weeks ago the credit rating agency, Fitch, downgraded the US from AAA to AA+. This now marks the second agency to remove the prestigious AAA rating, with the first being the S&P in 2011. Further downgrades were made this week by Moody’s, who downgraded several US banks and put several other on their watch list. We are working on our newsletter for next week, which we’ll cover this topic in more detail as well as share a number of investment risks and opportunities that this possesses. Good news, as I shared in last week’s video, we have some amazing solutions that not only don’t rely on the banks and US credit ratings, but also are positioned to take advantage of this “negative” news (check it out here).
I posted a video recently on our social media pages about some books that I’ve read this year that I think are worth a read. Aside from reading those books, I also just completed another course, receiving the Responsible Investing Advisor Certification (RIAC). Our team is always trying to increase our knowledge through our courses, seminars, and other educational activities. I felt that the RIAC was an important designation to obtain given the importance to sustainable and responsible investing. Trying to figure out what investments fit into the ESG or RI world and which are Greenwashing is a difficult pursuit. With green and sustainable companies now being profitable (and more and more money being poured into these types of companies), it’s important to have these types of investments in portfolios. I’d be happy to discuss how Responsible Investments can be a part of your portfolio and even where they already are!
However you plan on spending this weekend, listening to something by The Band would be a great companion! With Robbie Robertson passing away this past week, I pulled out some of their albums and was again blown away by all the great songs they had.
Until next week,
Trevor & the Cherry Hill Team
